1288249 Endless conveyers SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE - GES 21 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968] 56978/69 Heading B8A An article handling system for receiving articles from at least two input conveyers 2, 3, arranged side-by-side, and for delivering said articles to an output conveyer 4, the system comprising an intermediate conveyer 7, arranged between the, or of the, input conveyers, a blocking device 10, 13, 14, being provided at the outlet of each input conveyer and control means for sequentially opening and closing the blocking devices such that only one blocking device is open at any time for allowing the passage of articles on to the intermediate conveyer 7, and guide means 23, 24, arranged along the intermediate conveyer 7 for centreing articles with respect to the output conveyer. The blocking device comprises a fixed plate 10 and plates 13, 14, which are reciprocable relative to the plate 10. A table 5 is arranged between the input conveyers 2, 3, and the intermediate conveyer 7, in the centre of which is mounted, the fixed plate 10. Control means is provided with feelers 17, 18, which are arranged upstream of the blocking devices so that they are pivoted by incoming articles. Delay means (not shown) are provided for enabling the blocking devices to be actuated only when the duration of the pivoting of the feelers exceeds a predetermined interval of retardation. Feelers 21 and 22 prevent operation of the associated blocking device when an article is in a position (e.g. 1<SP>5</SP>) in which the article might be badly orientated by the action of the blocking devices.
