Abstract
128,802. Moran, J. A. Sept. 3, 1918. Vegetables, dressing.-Potatoes &c. are washed and scraped in a rotating cylinder comprising end disks s carrying alternate rollers v and bars. The bars are fixed to the disks and shaped to the contour of the rollers, but the rollers are rotated by pinions 7 gearing with a stationary spur wheel 8. The bars have roughened interior surfaces, and the rollers may be faced with carborundum. The cylinder may rotate partly immersed in water contained by a semicircular plate h, or this plate may be perforated. Water may be supplied by a pipe k to a perforated central pipe delivering to a perforated cylinder t carried by disks r which may rotate with the disks s. A sliding drawer d may receive dirt, peelings, and water, or may be perforated to retain solids only. The rollers v are detachable. one end of each fitting on keys 6 on the spindle 1 of its pinion 7 and the other held by a pointed spindle 2 normally retained by a largeheaded screw 15 or a spring. The disks s may be divided and hinged to facilitate the charging and discharging of the cylinder, or may have doors for the same purpose. The rollers are cleaned by brushes mounted on the framework or the trough h. The apparatus may be driven by a handle 17 o: belt gearing.
