Abstract
1287890 Mixing apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1969 [16 Dec 1968] 59635/68 Heading B1C A fluid, preferably a gas, is mixed with a liquid by discharging it from an orifice immersed in a first liquid and discharging a second liquid from an adjacent orifice separated from the first orifice by a knife edge so that the fluid and the second liquid mix on entering the first liquid. The knife edge may be formed by the abutting edges of two pipes, or by a partition between two chambers to which the gas and liquid are conveyed (Fig. 1, not shown) or by a partition 3 between the opposed ends of two pipes 1, 2, thus forming adjacent annular orifices 7, 8. The nozzle areas may be made variable by mounting the nozzle bodies 5, 6 on screw threads on the fluid and liquid inlet pipes 1, 2. The two liquids may be the same, and the apparatus may be used to inject oxygen, air or hydrogen into water, or oxygen into cyclohexane or sulphur hexafluoride into water, or oxygen-ethylene mixture into acetic acid.
