Abstract

128,778. Hopkinson, E. July 30, 1918. Moulding wheel tyres.-Relates to apparatus for shaping and setting a pneumatic tyre cover prior to final formation and vulcanization of the type comprising a support spanning the edges of the tyre, edge-holding means, a fluid-expansible hollow inner support, and outer confining-means, and comprises one or both edge-holding means distinct from, and movable with respect to, the spanning support, preferably with means for locking the holding-means in position. As shown, the edge-holding means comprise two rings 2 adapted to engage the beads, which are mounted upon, and are removable with respect to, a rim 1. When in position, the rings 2 are secured by spring locking-rings 4. The outer confining means consist of mould shells 7 conforming roughly to the shape of the tyre and having a portion 17 adapted roughly to block out the tread, the sections being secured together by Z-shaped clamps 14, Fig. 3.
