1287733 Spray coated cryogenic surfaces INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 25 Aug 1969 [29 Aug 1968] 41376/68 Heading B2A [Also in Division Fl] A cryosurface in a cryogenic pumping arrangement is produced by spray coating, e.g. by flame spraying, a substrate to form an adsorbent layer on the substrate. The substrate may be metallic, e.g. stainless steel, or of a plastics material, and the layer applied may be of alumina. The surface of the substrate may be de-greased and subjected to grit blasting with 24-30 mesh fused alumina grit, sprayed by means of a flame spraying gun with a bonding material, e.g. a nickel-aluminium. nickel-chromium or molybdenum alloy, to a thickness of 0.003-0.004" and then coated with a layer of alumina of thickness of 0.006-0.008" by means of a flame spraying gun.
