Abstract
A powder for application to ferrous surfaces consists of powdered alloy of the following percentage composition:- .C.0.1- 3 .Si.1 - 5 .B.0.9- 4 .Mo and/or W.3 -20 .Cr.15 -35 .Ni.1 -20 .Co.the remainder (but not less .than 25). admixed with tungsten carbide powder, the particle size of the admixed powder being not more than 0.007 inch. A wear-resistant coating may be applied to a ferrous article by depositing successively a layer of powdered alloy of the above composition, a layer of powdered alloy admixed with carbide and a further layer of powdered alloy. The layers are deposited by an oxy-acetylene flame spraying torch and the whole deposit is fused by the torch. Specifications 657,300, 693,719 and 707,228 are referred to.
