Abstract

778,041. Coated fabrics and films laminates. AERO RESEARCH, Ltd. Feb. 16, 1955 [Feb. 25, 1954], No. 5636/54. Class 140. Surfaces are adhered together by locating between them a synthetic linear polyamide of the nylon type in the form of a preformed film or sheet or a coating on a sheet of material, providing between the polyamide and the surfaces a thermosetting phenol-aldehyde resin, hot-pressing the assembly at a temperature high enough to melt the polyamide, and allowing to cool below the melting point of the polyamide before releasing the pressure. The phenol-aldehyde resin may be applied as a thin coating to the surfaces to be adhered, to the polyamide film or sheet, or to the polyamide - coated sheet, which may be a polyamide-coated woven glass fabric. The surfaces united may be of metal, such as stainless steel, aluminium, or titanium, glass, porcelain, or hard thermoset synthetic resin. The polyamides specified include those which contain substituent groups rendering them soluble in alcohol. Metal surfaces may be sandblasted and degreased before adhesion.
