Abstract

1287534 Making sandwich biscuits UNITED BISCUITS Ltd 8 April 1971 9117/71 Addition to 1262472 Heading A2A [Also in Division B8] Pusher fingers 2, 3 mounted on an endless conveyor chain 4 have extremities which protrude through a longitudinal slot in a fixed channel 1 whereby biscuits from a magazine 6 are conveyed singly along the channel to a rotary coating drum 7 where those biscuits conveyed by the fingers 3, which alternate with the fingers 2, receive a layer of filling material whilst the biscuits conveyed by the fingers 2 remain uncoated. Beyond the coating drum a dip in the channel 1 allows the coated biscuits to pass under a fixed channel 11 but the uncoated biscuits, which do not follow the dip because they are supported by forward extensions of the fingers 2, engage a depending pivoted member 9 by which their leading edges are lifted and the biscuits turned over onto the channel 11. Each turned-over biscuit is then engaged by the following finger 3 by which it is conveyed to the end of the channel 11 where it drops onto a coated biscuit on which it is subsequently pressed by a pressure plate 17. Tilting of a biscuit as it passes over the end of the channel 11 is prevented by a stationary guide 16. The apparatus comprises a plurality of parallel conveyors and associated equipment.
