1285776 Cellulose ether granules SHIKOKU KASEI KOGYO CO Ltd 26 Nov 1969 [28 Nov 1968] 57965/69 Heading C3A Porous granules of a cellulose ether which are soluble in water and which consist of fibrous crystals are prepared by evenly wetting particles of a cellulose ether which have a bulk density of at least 0À35 g./cm.<SP>3</SP> and the major part of which have a particle size of less than 60 Tyler mesh, with from 30 to 150 parts by weight of an aqueous liquid per 100 parts by weight of the particles, granulating the wetted particles, drying the resulting granules to such an extent that the granules, after drying, have a bulk density of from 0À2 to 0À5 g./cm.<SP>3</SP>, and selecting from the dried granules those granules which have a size of from 20 to 80 Tyler mesh, whereby the desired granules are obtained. The cellulose ether may be sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose or sodium carboxymethylhydroxyethyl cellulose and the aqueous liquid may be water optionally containing an organic solvent (e.g. ethyl alcohol), an optical whitening agent, a lubricant and/or a dispersant.
