Abstract

1285681 Resistance heating element SHORT BROS & HARLAND 29 Dec 1970 [1 Jan 1970] 39/70 Heading H5H A load carrying composite structure e.g. the leading edge 1 of aeroplanes &c. comprises a plurality of reinforcing carbon filaments 12 embedded in a plastics matrix and extending between a pair of current supply electrodes 15, 16 to provide a plurality of resistively heatable paths. The filaments 12 form a mesh in the matrix and the edge 11 is insulated thermally and electrically at 13 from the remainder of the wing. Air intakes may be similarly heated and light-load carrying constructional wall or floor panels may be similarly constructed.
