1285254 Incorporating couplers into photographic colour materials KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 4 Sept 1970 [5 Sept 1969] 42607/70 Heading G2C Colour couplers of the formula: - wherein X is a colour coupler radical; R 1 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms; R 2 and R 4 are alkyl groups of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, the total of carbon atoms in R 2 and R 4 being 6 to 25, and R 3 is hydrogen, or R 2 and R 4 are hydrogen and R 3 is alkyl or alkoxy of 4 to 18 carbon atoms; and n is 0-3, are incorporated into photographic silver halide colour materials by dissolving the couplers in a solvent comprising a compound of the formula: - wherein Y is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and n are as above and may be the same as or different from the corresponding radicals in the colour coupler used, and the solution formed is emulsified in a photographic binder, which may be a silver halide emulsion, before coating on to a support. Auxiliary volatile or water-miscible solvents e.g. ethyl acetate, known coupler solvents e.g. tricresyl phosphate and emulsifiers e.g. alkylbenzene sulphonates may also be present. The coupler residue X above may be derived from aromatic amine, pyrazolone, phenol, hydroxynaphthamido and open-chain activated methylene couplers.
