1285078 Monoazacyanine dyes AGFAGEVAERT AG 7 Nov 1969 [9 Nov 1968] 54582/69 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] Monoazacyanine dyes for spectrally sensitizing silver halide gelatine emulsions (see Divisions G2-G3) are of formula (in which R and R 3 are each H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, CF 3 , phenyl or a condensed benzo ring; R 1 and R 2 are each H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group optionally substituted by one or more OH, alkoxy, SO 3 H, sulphoalkoxy, sulphato, CO 2 H, sulphamide, sulphamyl, N-sulphonylsulphamyl, N-alkylcarbonylsulphamyl, N-sulphonylcarbamyl or phosphonic acid groups optionally in salt or anionic form; at least one of R 1 and R 2 contains an anionic group; Z is vinylene, Se or S). In the specific preparations given, a 2-methylthio heterocyclic compound and a 2-amino heterocyclic compound are condensed to give a dye base which is then quaternized.
