Abstract

1285008 Steam-water centrifugal separator SULZER BROS Ltd 4 June 1971 [5 June 1970] 19077/71 Heading B2P A liquid separator for a steam-water mixture comprises a tubular vessel 1 having a first tube portion 2 which is provided with a plurality of spigots 10-15 and 20-23 for the supply of the mixture and for the discharge of the steam respectively, the axis of each spigot being situated transversely of the central axis of the vessel 1, and a second tube portion 3 adjoining one end of the first tube portion 2, the portion 3 enclosing the separation zone and having no supply and discharge apertures, in its surface, the portions 2, 3 having substantially the same wall thickness and the portion 3 having a larger diameter than the portion 2. The vessel. 1 has a third tube portion 4 of smaller diameter than the portion 3 and provided with transverse spigots 8, 9 for the discharge of separated water. The supply and discharge spigots are preferably tangential. A vortex finder steam outlet tube 5 extends inside the portion 3 to the portion 2 above the supply spigots 10-15. A bell-shaped member 6 is disposed on the tube 5 in the region of the transition from the portion 2 to the portion 3 so that the flow cross-section from the portion 2 to the portion 3 is substantially constant. Swirl producing vanes are provided at 7.
