Abstract

1284996 Milling head WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd 7 Jan 1971 [24 Jan 1970] 3525/70 Addition to 1175869 Heading B3K A tool head 1 comprises a milling saw 3 clamped on an arbor 4, a guide 8, comprising a cover ring 9 clamped to a backing ring 10, and opposed annular cheeks 11 on rings 9 and 10 disposed adjacent the roots of the cutting teeth 12, guide 8 being rotatably mounted so as to be movable towards or away from the workpiece 7, so that the saw is supported when milling deep or shallow grooves. Arbor 4 is adapted to float axially on a spindle 2 rotated by an electric motor, and head 1 is vertically and laterally movable relative to the workpiece. Guide 8 is rotated by a piston and cylinder 19 actuated by fluid pressure supplied from the hydraulic control circuit of the saw in such a way that the position taken up by the guide is related to the depth of cut selected. Guide 8 is cut away adjacent the cutting portion of the asw.
