Abstract

1284293 Semi rotary fluid motors HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [8 Dec 1969] 44290/69 Heading F1F A vane type actuator comprises an arcuate working cylinder 13 which can be of any suitable cross-sectional shape in which a vane piston 14 of corresponding shape works and wherein sealing between the vane and cylinder is effected by a flexible diaphragm 21 secured at one edge between the ports 13a 13b of the cylinder and at the other edge to the vane by bonding, clamping or being moulded in. The vane is connected to the torque output shaft 15 by a crank arm 23 which is always on one side of the diaphragm and extends out of the port of the cylinder 13 in which the vane marks into an extension 24. As shown the actuator is one way acting pressure fluid being admitted at 16 into the side 13a while the side 13b is vented at 17. The return may be by external means or a second linked chamber. Preferably to reduce friction the vane is made of or coated with low friction plastics material and it and/or the cylinder may be stepped also to reduce friction on the diaphragm in the space 20.
