Abstract

1283710 Centrifugal pumps SIEMENS A G 19 Sept 1969 [26 Sept 1968] 46394/69 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump has at least one curved groove 6 machined in the inner surface of the front wall 3 of the pump casing and preferably extending into the pump inlet 4, so that during reverse running of the impeller 2 the liquid, which normally forms an annulus and creates considerable noise, is removed from the pump via the groove 6 and inlet 4. Entry of liquid into the groove is facilitated by rounding off the edge 9 and by sloping the adjacent sidewall of the groove. Moreover, the faces of the impeller vanes which become the leading faces during reverse running may be acutely inclined to the inner surface of the front wall 3 to force the liquid of the annulus against the inner surface and thus into the groove.
