Abstract
1283658 Junction pieces; pipe couplings; pipe stoppers C H CHRONISTER 5 Jan 1971 397/71 Headings F2G and F2P A junction piece between inlet and outlet pipes 16, 18 comprises a pipe bend 14 mounted for rotation about the axis of the outlet 18 by a trunnion 24 &c. and acting as a valve, rotating from the valve closed position with its end 30 covered by a seal 38 to a valve open position with its end 30 uncovered for alignment with and connection to the inlet 16, Fig. 2 (not shown). As shown, the valve is opened by first rotating a hand wheel 70 so that the seal 38 and its support 68, carried by a pivoted pin-and-slot device 62, are removed from the open end 30 of the pipe bend. A second hand wheel 32 is then turned to act through a yoke 36 and rotate the pipe bend 14 anti-clockwise about its trunnion 24 &c. Pins 56 on the pipe bend 14 engage levers 52 pivoted on a collar 40 slidable along the inlet 16, the levers 52 also resting on fixed pins 54 carried by a surrounding housing 12: as the end 30 of the pipe bend 14 aligns with the inlet 16, the collar 40 is slidden into place across the joints against the bias of springs 44. Seals 42, 58 are provided on the collar 40.
