Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A power-operated hinge for a cover of a vessel containing radio-active materials comprises two parallel arms 32, 34 pivotally mounted on a base-plate 36 which, in turn, is pivotally mounted about a driving shaft 38, the ends of the arms 32, 34 being pivotally connected to a yoke 30 secured to the cover, and a crank-arm 40 secured to driving shaft 38 being connected to the end of the arm 32 remote from the yoke 30 by means of a link 44. The crank-arm 40 has a nose portion 46 which is adapted to engage a stop 48 on the base-plate 36 after the cover has been raised slightly due to the deformation of the linkwork, whereupon continued rotation of the driving shaft 38 causes the whole assembly to pivot about the shaft 38.
