Abstract
128,327. Hulin, P. L. Jan. 13, 1917, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Hydrochloric acid.-In the process of dehydrating magnesium chloride in an atmosphere of hydrochloric acid gas, chlorine and hydrogen are caused to combine in proximity to the hydrated chloride, whereby the heat of the reaction dehydrates the chloride, the atmosphere of hydrochloric acid gas preventing formation of oxychloride. The temperature of the reaction may be reduced by using an excess of chlorine, or gaseous hydrochloric acid, preferably from the discharge outlet of the apparatus, may be mixed with the hydrogen and chlorine. The gaseous hydrochloric acid formed may be absorbed in water.
