1282651 Skirts J M P FAGAN 19 April 1971 [17 March 1970] 12748/70 Heading A3V A beach skirt comprises a multiplicity of strands of polypropylene or other plastics material sewn to a waistband, the ends of the waistband being sewn together or provided with complementary fasteners. The strands may be combed so as to split them into narrower strands. A method of making such skirts comprises the winding of a length of polypropylene or other plastics material round a rectangular frame 10 mounted by a spindle on side supports 12 and being rotatable by means of a crank handle 13 to facilitate winding, the application of adhesive tapes as 15 to bind together the strands where they are turned over said frame, the application of waist bands as 16 to enclose the tapes, the removal of the strands from the frame, the subsequent stitching together of waistbands tapes and strands and the cutting in two of each strand so as to form two skirts, the combing of the strands so as to split them and the sewing together of the two ends of each waist band or alternatively the provision thereon of fastening means e.g. buttons or hooks. The frame should be of a width corresponding to the desired length of the waist band and of a height corresponding to twice the desired length of skirt. The waist bands may be stitched in place before removal from the frame, if desired.
