1282248 Power-operated scissors SINGER CO 8 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 19333/71 Heading B4B An electrically-operated scissors comprises a blade 78 connected to an electric motor 42, 44, 54 for actuation relative to a fixed blade 85, and means 86, 72 for permitting selective movement of the blade 78 relative to the blade 85 independently of the motor in order to effect a controlled snip. The blade 78 is connected to a rod 64 provided with an abutment 66 fixed to the rod and an abutment 70 urged against an end 56 of the motor armature 54 by a spring 72. The motor includes a pair of coils 42, 44 which when a switch 88, 90, 92, Fig. 1, is actuated causes the armature to vibrate and via the abutments 64, 70, the blade 78 to oscillate. The blade can be actuated independently of the motor by pushing the rod 64 downwardly against the action of the spring 72 by means of a knob 86. In modifications a single-coil motor together with a suitable spring may replace the two-coil motor shown and an extension spring may be used in place of the compression spring 72, only one abutment then being required.
