Abstract
1281962 Sample injectors for liquid chromatography SIEMENS AG 20 Jan 1970 [20 Jan 1969] 2819/70 Heading B1X Samples in containers BH are metered and injected into a stream of carrier liquid flowing in pipe Z to chromatography column T by holding cannula KA in the position shown while piston rod ST is withdrawn so that end 6 thereof lies further to the right than aperture 5. Container BH is then removed from the end of cannula KA, and the end of the cannula capped with plug SF. The entire cannula assembly is then moved to the right until nut M abuts strap L, at which point aperture 5 is situated in duct K. A predetermined stroke of rod ST then injects a metered quantity of sample into the carrier liquid in duct K. If preferred, rod ST may be absent, cannula KA being hollow. After the sample has been injected the cannula KA may be flushed with carrier liquid simply by removing plug SF; when flushing is complete, cannula KA is moved to the left and rod ST (if present) restored to the initial position, when the injector is ready for the next cycle. In a modification, the injector may be used to sample liquid flowing constantly through a chamber (see Fig. 2, not shown).
