Abstract
1281261 Tuyeres NORANDA MINES Ltd 19 March 1970 13265/70 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] Molten copper is deoxidized by injecting below the surface thereof gaseous hydrocarbon which is at a pressure of at least 30 p.s.i.g. or has been preheated to about the temperature of the melt. The hydrocarbon may be unreformed natural gas, methane, ethane, propane or butane and may be injected alone or mixed with air or steam. The gas is preferably introduced through a tuyere which comprises an outer heat resistant pipe 16 (Fig. 4) secured to the furnace wall 17 and extending from the inner face of the wall to at least the outer face thereof; and an inner pipe 19 slid inside and being of greater length than, outer pipe 16 with a refractory seal interconnecting the two pipes for preventing gas blow back. The gas is supplied from a hose 23 through a "T-piece".
