Abstract

1281111 Animal foodstuffs AMERICAN REFINING Ltd 20 Jan 1970 [31 Jan 1969] 2695/70 Heading A2B Nutrient materials suitable as animal foodstuffs are prepared by contacting agricultural organic material with a nitrification agent to produce a nitrified intermediate having an increased pH in respect to the agricultural organic material, digesting said intermediate with a mineral acid to depolymerise a portion of the intermediate to produce a product containing modified polysaccharide materials carrying functional oxygen and nitrogen groups capable of forming complexes with inorganic nutrients. The intermediate is preferably digested with phosphoric acid, optionally in the presence of a sulphur-contributing reagent such as sulphuric acid or a metal sulphate. A suitable nitrification agent is ammonia. Alternatively nitrification may be carried out by contacting the agricultural organic material with a biological micro organism such as yeast or cattle rumen contents. Exemplified agricultural organic starting materials are potato waste, peanut shells, brewers grain, alfalfa, wheat germ, whole wheat, and wheat middlings, said material being nitrified followed by digestion with mineral acid. The resultant material is then complexed with an inorganic nutrients such as metal sulphates, dolomite, and acydamin (acydamin comprises diatomaceous earth and humic acids). The resultant nutrient material may be admixed with molasses, common salt, corn oil, vitamins, wheat germ oil and soy protein.
