Abstract

1280824 Laminates BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 2 Jan 1970 [3 Oct 1968] 46934/68 Addition to 1185474 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A laminate which can be liquid impregnated for use in high voltage electrical apparatus (see Divisions H1 and H2) comprises plastics film bonded to' a sheet or sheets of fibrous material loaded with active alumina or other metal oxide, hydroxide or carbonate or mixtures thereof. The fibrous material may be paper or synthetic fibres, e.g. polycarbonate, nylon or mixtures thereof with cellulose fibres. The loading material may be selected from those described in Specification 874,981. The plastics film may be polycarbonate, polysulphone, polyester, polyphenylene oxide, poly 4-methylpentene-1, P.T.F.E., fluorinated ethylene polymer, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylenepropylene copolymers, polyfluorostyrene or polyvinylcarbazole. Preferably the plastics film is sandwiched between two loaded fibrous sheets. The laminates may be made by bringing together loaded fibrous sheets and molten plastics film leaving an extruder, or by hot calendering loaded fibrous sheets and discharge or flame primed plastics film.
