Abstract

1280800 Soldering flux PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [21 March 1970 24518/71 Heading C7M A soldering flux for non pretinned printed circuits consists of a solution of sorbitol and a halogen free activator containing at least one amino group per molecule in a mixture of 0.8-3 parts weight ethanol to 1 part water with a pH of 5-8. The flux preferably contains 100-200 parts weight sorbital per 100 parts ethanol-water mixture and the pH may be adjusted with citric or tartaric acid The activators may be urea, quanidine, hydrazine, hexamethylenetertramine, triethanolamine and glycocol. The flux activity may be increased by adding 2-7% of adipic, azelaic or sebacic acids. The flow is applied to circuit boards 2 as a foam by blowing air through porous ceramic block 7 immersed in the flux in vessel 5. The flux layer is levelled by brush 8 dried at 9 and coated with solder metal at 10.
