Abstract

1280769 Carboxymethyl cellulose composition NASHUA CORP 24 March 1970 [9 June 1969] 14082/70 Heading C3F [Also in Division D2] A pressure-sensitive copying sheet comprises a backing sheet and a surface layer that comprises a continuous phase of the aluminium salt of carboxy-methyl-cellulose, with an oil containing a colour-forming reactant in irregular cells within it. The sheet may be made by dispersing the oil, containing the colour-forming reactant, in an aqueous solution of C.M.C., adding an aqueous solution of aluminium nitrate while agitating to precipitate the C.M.C., coating the particles on to a backing sheet and drying the coating. In the Example, solution A comprises carboxymethylcellulose, A-stage urea-formaldehyde resin and water, solution B comprises chlorinated diphenyl, isooctyl-isodecyl phthalate, "Crystal" (Registered Trade Mark) violet lactone and benzoyl-leuco-methylene blue, and solution C aluminium nitrate in water. These solutions are prepared separately, and solution B then beaten in to solution A, and solution C added while agitating. These are then added a solution of ammonium chloride in water, a solution of tartaric acid in water and a dispersion in water of thickening agents comprising ammonium alginate, a wetting agent and arrowroot starch. This mixture is coated on to paper.
