Abstract
Attapulgite in an aqueous medium is reacted with a water-soluble oxide, halide, nitrate, sulphate or acetate of zinc, cadmium, mercury calcium, magnesium, strontium, manganese, cobalt or nickel. In Example 1, zinc chloride is dissolved in water, and attapulgite clay is mixed in. Example 2 is similar but uses cadmium iodide in place of zinc chloride.ALSO:An attapulgite-containing adsorption-reactive record material coating is protected from atmospheric poisoning by preparing the coating slurry by reacting attapulgite in an aqueous medium with a water-soluble oxide, halide, nitrate, sulphate or acetate of zinc, cadmium, mercury, calcium, magnesium, strontium, manganese, cobalt or nickel. In Example 1, zinc chloride is dissolved in water, attapulgite clay is mixed in, butyl latex and starch solutions are added, and the resulting composition coated at the size-press of a paper-making machine. Example 2 is similar but uses cadmium iodide in place of zinc chloride, whereas Example 3 uses styrene-butadiene latex instead of the butyl latex/starch adhesive.ALSO:An attapulgite - containing adsorption -reactive record material coating is protected from atmospheric poisoning by preparing the coating slurry by reacting attapulgite in an aqueous medium with a water-soluble oxide, halide, nitrate, sulphate or acetate of zinc, cadmium, mercury, calcium, magnesium, strontium, manganese, cobalt or nickel. The coating may be applied to paper at the size press, and the paper then typed upon using a colourless Crystal Violet Lactone ink, which produces a blue colour on the attapulgite coating. In Example 1, zinc chloride is dissolved in water, attapulgite clay is mixed in, butyl latex and starch solution are added, and the resulting composition coated at the size-press of a paper-making machine. Example 2 is similar but uses cadmium iodide in place of zinc chloride, whereas Example 3 uses styrene-butadiene latex instead of the butyl latex/starch adhesive.
