Abstract
1279308 Tube mills ALLIS-CHALMERS MFG CO 15 Sept 1969 [30 Sept 1968] 45341/ 69 Heading B2A [Also in Division B3] A mill comprises a shell plate 12 with a shell end flange 24, 26 secured at each end and an end plate 14, 16 fastened to each shell end flange. A reinforcing ring 32 is rigidly joined, as by welding to each axial end of the shell plate and to the respective contiguous shell end flange to reinforce the shell at the junction. The ring 32, Fig. 2, is chamfered at 38 and 42, 43 to permit fully penetrated welds 34, 40 in cooperation with corresponding chamfers 36 on the flange 24 and 44, 45 on the plate 22 respectively. In a further embodiment the shell has an outwardly turned flange, Fig. 3 (not shown) and the ring may be welded coaxially with and inside the shell, plate, Fig. 4 (not shown), or alternatively outside the shell plate.
