Abstract

1279065 Pipe joints GENERAL MOTORS CORP 19 April 1971 [22 May 1970] 24516/71 Heading F2G [Also in Division F1] A fuel injection system includes a fuel supply pipe having a radially enlarged bead formed near one end, this end of the pipe being inserted in an O-ring contained in a counterbore at the mouth of a fuel inlet passage formed in the injection nozzle housing, and the pipe being retained by a bifurcated clip which straddles the pipe immediately behind the bead, the clip having a portion at right-angles to the bifurcated portion, this latter portion having a hole through which a headed fastener passes to secure the clip to the housing. The injector body 20 is swaged to retain an inlet fitting 54 having a longitudinal passage 66 down which fuel passes to the nozzle 24. A pair of transverse openings 68 connect with the passage 66 and have similar provision for receiving the end of a fuel supply pipe 72. Each opening has a counterbore 70 which receives an O-ring 78. The end of the pipe 72 is pushed into the O-ring until a bead 84 makes sealing contact with the ring. A retaining clamp 86 consists of a central section 92 having an aperture 96 through which a screw 98 extends into the inlet fitting 54, and two bifurcated sections 88 each of which fits over one of the pipes adjacent the side of the bead remote from the O-ring.
