127,890. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, Sir G. T. June 15, 1917. Ordnance b r e e c h mechanism. - Relates to guns in which a rifle lock is employed as the fi r i n g - mechanism. According to the invention, a Martini lock is employed, and means, such as a Bowden wire operating upon suitable mechanism, is provided for operating the trigger from a suitable position on the gun mounting or cradle. A safety device to prevent firing except when the breech-screw is locked, may also be provided. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the Martini lock B is mounted at the rear of the axial vent plug. The usual cocking- lever is shortened and provided with an upstanding crank B<x>. The trigger-operating mechanism comprises a Bowden wire D, a bell-crank lever D<1>, a spring-controlled plunger E, and a bellcrank lever E<1> acting on an extension b<2x> nf the trigger. The plunger E and bell-crank E' are mounted in an extension C on a. sleeve C' which turns with the breech-screw, so that the plunger E is in operative connexion with the bell-crank lever D<1> only when the breech-screw is fully locked. A groove c in the extension C locks the trigger except when the breech is locked.
