Abstract

1277970 Sealing and separating packages CAMPBELL TAGGART ASSOCIATED BAKERIES Inc 30 Dec 1969 63256/69 Heading B8C Packaging apparatus comprises guide means for guiding sheet film material between upper and lower members, one of which is provided with a sealing bar and a heated cutting member which is arranged to sever the film material between spaced portions sealed by the sealing bar. As shown, sheets 1, 2 of plastics material are drawn over rollers 3, 4 with bakery products (not shown) therebetween, and on to a pick-up bar 5 having a resilient upper part 6 providing a channel 9. An upper bar 10 supports a sealing bar 17 having sealing surfaces 18a and between which moves a heated cutting bar 20. The sealing bar 17 is heated by radiation of heat produced in the cutting bar 20. In operation, movement of the bars 5 and 10 towards each other brings jaws 12a, 13a into contact with the film and presses it on to the upper part 6 of bar 5, the sealing bar 17 moves downwardly into contact with the film above the channel 9 and thereafter the cutting bar moves downwardly to sever the sealed films in the area between the side walls of the channel 9. The movement of the bars 5 and 10 which may be timed automatically is controlled by arms 37, 38 in any suitable manner and movement of the cutting bar 20 is controlled by a solenoid 31a which may be energized automatically in timed relation to operation of the sealing bar.
