Abstract
1277293 Gas lighters BUTANE MATCH AG 20 May 1969 [20 May 1968] 25605/69 Heading F4F A gas lighter comprises a head assembly 12 to which is threaded a replaceable gas cartridge 11, the threaded connection being provided by a screw 27 force fitted into the head assembly and engaging an internally threaded plug 14 of the cartridge, and wherein a tapered point 31 of the screw pierces a wall 24 of the plug when the cartridge is initially threaded on to the head assembly and relative rotation of the assembly and cartridge then causes the point 31 and pierced wall 24 to act as a valve for controlling the flow of gas. The head assembly is die cast and provided with a skirt 32 which telescopes over the cartridge and concentric therewith a sleeve 33 in which the screw is located, the annular space 34 between the skirt and sleeve having located therein a tube 54 which contains a flint 53 and coiled flint biasing spring 56. The spring 56 is located at its lower end by a flange 57 held in place by legs 58 which frictionally grip sleeve 33. A flint wheel is rotatably mounted for manual rotation within a slot cut in a head flange 26 which defines a recess 40. The gas from the cartridge passes to outlet port 41 within the recess .40 via the threads of screw 27, axial and radial grooves 30 cut in the inner faces of the recess formed by sleeve 33, and a passage 38. The cartridge may be moulded from thermoplastics material and contain open cell polyether foam which traps the fuel, e.g. butane. The maximum pressure of the fuel reaching the outlet port is predetermined by a pressure regulator assembly 23.
