Abstract
127,710. Mooney, D. J. May 31, 1918. Benches, work.-Aeroplane wings are built up by securing them together while laid out on laterally projecting supports carried by a vertical frame. The frame preferably consists of an openwork structure comprising main vertical and horizontal members A, B, Fig. 1, of channel section, additional horizontal flat members B<1>, and additional vertical members A' of T-section all secured together. Figs. 3, 4 and 5 show three forms of support. The support shown in Fig. 3 comprises a cramp D for holding a single spar E and is secured adjustably to the vertical members A, A<1> by screws, pins and nuts D'. Packing- plates F are provided to varv the position of the spar. Fig. 4 shows a cramp D<2> for holding a double spar E<1>. Fig. 5 shows a finger or bracket D<3> adjustably secured to the horizontal member B<1> to position the rib G. The frame may be mounted to swing on a vertical or an horizontal axis, and, in the latter case, the pivots may be adjustable vertically to varv the height of the frame from the ground.
