Abstract

1276912 Colloidal silica AGFA-GEVAERT AG 25 Aug 1969 [5 Sept 1968] 42164/69 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] In Example XVIII a colloidal silicic acid sol containing 10% of polyacrylic acid is made by heating a 30% aqueous colloidal silicic acid sol of particle size 14-15 nm. and surface 195- 215 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. with sodium acrylate in the presence of potassium persulphate. The polymer prevents agglomeration of the silicic acid particles. Other polymers which can be formed are those of acrylonitrile, acrylamide and vinylsulphonic acid.
