Abstract

1276571 Internally heated pressure vessel NIPPON CARBON CO Ltd 27 May 1969 [28 May 1968] 26733/69 Heading B1X [Also in Divisions B3 and F4] An internally heated pressure vessel in which porous articles are impregnated with a molten metal, comprises a water cooled, insulated, stainless steel outer shell 1, a heating chamber 6 and an impregnating chamber 5. The porous articles to be impregnated are loaded into a graphite dip cage 15 secured to a shaft 14 which extends through the cover 17 of the vessel, and then lowered into the molten metal which is contained in a graphite beaker 7 backed by a stainless steel container 4 which separates the impregnating and heating chambers 5, 6 respectively. Both chambers may be selectively connected to a nitrogen or argon gas source (not shown) through line 10 to allow them to be pressurised, or to a vacuum pump (not shown) to allow a vacuum to be produced in them. The electric heater 3 is used to both melt and maintain the metal molten.
