Abstract
1276334 Vinyl chloride polymers DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 22 Sept 1969 [23 Sept 1968] 46656/69 Headings C3G and C3P Vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers having a highly branched configuration and containing 3-14 branch terminating chloromethyl groups per 1000 methylene groups are obtained by polymerization in an aqueous medium at 90-165‹ C., and at the vapour pressure of vinyl chloride at the reaction temperature to 5000 p.s.i.g. for 1-12 hours under substantially liquid-full reactor conditions. There are exemplified (a) homopolymers, copolymers with (b) propylene or (c) vinyl acetate and (d) a graft copolymer on an ethylene/vinyl acetate base. Water is pumped in, if desired with catalyst, to maintain the liquid-full condition. The products are (a) compounded with polyethylene, polypropylene or P.V.C. or foamed with trichloroethylene, (b) formed into vinyl asbestos flooring and (d) formed by compression moulding as compositions filled with calcium carbonate, asbestos or fibre-glass.
