Abstract

1276057 Windscreen aerial FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 24 July 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 35915/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division H4] A windshield aerial system 10 comprises first and second glass sheets 12, 14 which are laminated together with a polyvinyl butyral interlayer 16. Two fine aerial wires 20, 20, which are adhered to said interlayer before lamination, extend upwardly from the centre of the base of the windshield to near its upper edge, whence they continue parallel to said edge in opposite directions. The wires are exposed in a cut-out portion 18 of the lower edge of the glass sheet 14. A conductive terminal plate 24 is located in the portion 18 by legs 26, 26 so that there is a space 28 between its edge and the edge of said portion 18. Alternatively, the space 28 may be provided by means of a central projection from the plate 24, positioned between the wires 20, 20. A rear lug 30 of the plate 24 is bent over on assembly, and the two aerial wires and an exposed end 34 of an insulated cable 32 are soldered thereto. The cable 32 is bent round, is passed through a passageway 44 in a front portion 42 of a non- conductive tab 38, and is terminated in a connector 36. The tab 38, which may be made of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS plastic) is fixed to the windshield by means of a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 40 which is placed on a portion extending below the glass sheet 12. The front portion 42 is continued by a flat portion 46, and the two portions, which define a rear surface 48 abutting the edge of the glass sheet 12, provide protection for the joint on the lug 30. The cut-out portion 18 is finally filled with sealing compound 50, such as a potting compound formed from a silicone rubber base adhesive.
