Abstract
1275764 Automatic control of converters ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 13 Oct 1970 [22 July 1969] 36822/69 Heading G3R [Also in Divisions H2 and H3] In a control system e.g. for controlling gridcontrol converters, including a plurality of separate circuits having a common output v#α, only a selected one of said control circuits being operative at any instant, each control circuit includes an amplifier 1, 2 having a feedback capacitor C1, C2 and means connected to said amplifier and effective when the amplifier is inoperative to maintain the charge on the capacitor at substantially the same level as that on the capacitor in the operative one of said circuits. The upper circuit may form part of a constantcurrent control of an inverter whilst the lower circuit may provide constant extinction angle in the inverter. Assuming the amplifier 1 has a more negative output than amplifier 2, transistor TR1 will be saturated so as to pass the output from amplifier 1 to the output V½ α and to hold diode D1 cut-off. Diode D2 prevents the voltage difference via R3, R4 driving the output of amplifier 2 positive, hence a small current is maintained in transistor TR2, hence the baseemitter voltage of TR2 is only slightly below that of TR1, so that the charge on C2 is maintained substantially equal to that of C1. The invention prevents system failure due to the time taken for the feedback capacitor C1 or C2 to correct its charge following a changeover in control systems.
