Abstract

1275746 Wall facings J F RALPH 16 June 1969 [17 June 1968] 28694/68 Heading E1B A wall facing comprises concrete blocks 5 supported on horizontal battens 2 by a lip 12 engaging in a rebate at the upper edge of the batten. Rebates or grooves are provided in the rear faces of the block which overlie the vertical battens 4. A cupping 18 is applied to hold all the blocks in place. In a modification the blocks have a channel across the centre of the back face and rebates down the sides and they are supported on a criss-cross grid work of horizontal and vertical battens, the spacing between which correspond to the size of the block. The horizontal members are in front of the vertical members and therefore the upper edge need not be rabbetted as the lip on the tile can pass between the batten and the wall. The lip may be provided by a metal insert embedded in the block.
