Abstract

1275684 Pipe &c couplings FPT INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 May 1971 [1 May 1979] 21060/70 Heading F2G A coupling for pipes, tanks &c. which may be separated by pulling apart its two constituent members A, B comprises an inner sleeve 12 of the first member A supporting an outer sleeve 15 biased leftwards by a spring 17 so that a bead or dimples 19 at its end hold locking detents 20 loosely mounted in a sleeve 23 of the second member B against the inner sleeve. When the coupling members A, B are pulled apart, Fig. 3 (not shown), the inner sleeve 12 is slidden leftwards relatively to the outer sleeve 15 while the spring 17 is compressed, until the locking detents 20 ride off the inner sleeve 12 and the coupling is released. Flexible collars 26 protect the coupling. As shown, each member A, B is provided with a valve 27 spring-biased to the closed position and automatically opened when the members A, B are coupled. In one modified form, Fig. 1 (not shown), the valves 27 are omitted, and in another modified form, Fig. 5 (not shown), the valves are so shaped as to provide a flow path of constant area along the members A, B.
