Abstract

1275009 Clocks and watches OMEGA LOUIS BRANDT & FRERE S A 21 Sept 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 44835/70 Heading G3T A watch for use in different time zones has a mechanism permitting the position of the hour hand to be altered in increments of one hour without disturbing the other hand(s) and comprising a wheel 6 which is freely mounted on the cannon of hour wheel 1 and carries hour hand 7. The hour wheel 1 carries twelve circumferentially spaced magnets 11 which normally co-operate with aligned pieces 12 of soft iron in the wheel 6 to drive the latter. When the wheel 6 is rotated by means of a stem or other mechanism to set the hour hand 7, the wheel moves in angular steps owing to the forces between the magnets 11 and soft iron pieces 12. Rotation of the hour wheel 1 is avoided since the magnetic forces are insufficient to overcome the frictional mounting of cannon pinion 4 on its arbor 5. The wheels which are magnetically linked may alternatively be minute wheels, in which case the number of magnets is reduced in proportion to the ratio between the hour wheel 1 and minute wheel pinion 2. The soft iron pieces 12 may be replaced by further magnets, and one or both wheels may be made of a magnetizable material and magnetized to obtain the desired poles.
