Abstract
1,274,452. Detonating fuse-cords. APACHE POWDER CO. 14 July, 1969, No. 35406/69. Heading F3A. [Also in Divisions C4-C5] A detonating fuze-cord comprises a flexible textile sheath surrounding a high intensity explosive core, and an outer waterproof coating on said sheath which is luminescent, fluorescent or phosphorescent. The coating composition comprises pigments having a particle less than 44 Á and preferably in the range 5-30 Á. Wax, hydrogenated oil or stearates are used as a carrier material for the pigment. In an example, the composition includes ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer, hydrogenated wood rosin and polyterpene hydrocarbon resin. Percentages are given. The coating composition is prepared by adding the pigment to the carrier material which is maintained molten at a temperature of 160- 180‹ F., and then applying the composition to the fuse-cord in the form of a coating at least 1 mm. thick.
