Abstract
1,273,649. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in boreholes. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. Nov. 21, 1970, No. 55443/70. Heading G1N. A borehole logging tool 11-14 comprises transmitter and receiver search coils 19, 17 respectively and transmitter and receiver null coils 31, 32 respectively, the null coils being spaced along the tool from the search coils so as not to be magnetically coupled with them, the transmitter coils being connected in series-aiding and the receiver coils in series - opposing Fig. 3 (not shown) whereby the measurement of magnetic susceptibility of material surrounding the borehole is compensated for variations of ambient temperature or terrestrial magnetism. The null coils are pancake-shaped so as to be substantially unaffected by the susceptibility of the surrounding material. The coils are air-cored, and coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the tool of which the case 18 is of non-magnetic material.
