Abstract
1,272,067. Geophysical surveying. CENTRAL GEOPHYSICS Ltd. June 11, 1969 [June 15, 1968], No.28637/68. Heading G1N. Buried deposits 13 of a mineral are detected by (i) determining the strength of the ambient magnetic field at a predetermined point; (ii) passing a current through the earth in the vicinity of the point by means of electrodes 11, 12 and a power supply; (iii) abruptly terminating the current; (iv) measuring the ambient magnetic field strength immediately after cessation of current flow when it is modified by effects due to induced polarization of the mineral deposits (v) and comparing the two magnetic field measurements any difference being indicative of the presence of mineral sulphide at the test location. It is not necessary that the measurement of the ambient magnetic field be effected at the same time as that due to induced polarization effects but the compared measurements must be made at the same position.
