Abstract

1,272,443. Detonators. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 13 Aug., 1969 [14 Aug., 1968], No. 40448/69. Heading F3A. A casing of a detonator for use in advance of a relay detonator or transmission charge across a gap, comprises a cylindrical housing 1 closed at its base 8 whereat an insert 6 provides a conical cavity between the insert and the base, the other end having a closure 5. A charge train consists of a fuze composition 2 sensitive e.g. to puncturing, impact, heat or spark, an initiating explosive 3 e.g. lead azide, and a secondary explosive 4 e.g. tetryl, hexogen or nitropenta. Part 4a of the explosive 4 is contained in the conical cavity. The device reduces the shock wave whilst increasing impulses on unit area of the relay detonator, to improve reliability e.g. of hollow charge projectiles. The base 8 may be dished inwardly. In a modification the insert 6 is extended as a flanged liner of the housing and contains the closure as an inserted cap.
