Abstract

1,271,937. Vortex devices. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. June 2, 1969 [June 5, 1968], No. 26813/68. Heading G3H. [Also in Division F1] Fluid e.g. gas streams 10, 19, Fig. 1, are directed alternately by fluid logic switches 11, 20 to a common element 13 e.g. a heat exchanger. As shown two heat exchangers 13, 17 are traversed alternately by hot and cold gas streams 10, 19 according to which of the control ports of switches 11, 20 are pressurized through channels 28, 29. Thus when channel 28 is pressurized the hot gas stream 10 is directed from inlet 40 of switch 11 to outlet 41, an exclusive inlet 26 of a module 12 through a combined inlet/outlet 23, the exchanger 13 and a further module 14 to a cooled gas exhaust manifold 15, whilst the cold gas stream 19 is directed through an outlet 42 of switch 20, a module 18 exchanger 17 and a further module 16 to a heated gas exhaust manifold 21. On relieving pressure in control line 28 and pressurizing control line 29 the flows of hot and cold gas are switched. Each module 12, 14, 16, 18 comprises a vortex chamber 22, Fig. 2, having a tangential inlet/outlet 23, an annular exclusive outlet 24 and an exclusive nozzle inlet 26.
