Abstract

1,271,888. Chucks. O. BILZ. 7 May, 1970, No. 22018/70. Addition to 1,166,128. Heading B3B. In a quick-change chuck as claimed in claim 2 of the parent Specification in which a tool holding socket 2 and adjusting nut 4 are locked in a shank 1 by balls 6, and a set screw 17 locks a guide sleeve 22 to the shank 1 by passing through a transverse bore, an improvement is provided whereby said transverse bore is an oblique slot 19 in the guide sleeve 22 extending substantially circumferentially thereof so that rotation of the sleeve 22 causes axial movement thereof to clamp a shoulder against an annular end surface 21 of the shank 1. A number of peripherally spaced and longitudinally offset oblique slots 19 may be provided in the sleeve to ensure that at least one will produce effective clamping of the sleeve 22 to the surface 21. The angle of inclination of the axis of the slots 19 ensures frictional retention of the sleeve 22 in its clamped position. Large holes or slotted holes 18 in a spring biased control sleeve 3 provide access to the set screw 17.
