Abstract

1,271,685. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. PLATMANUFAKTUR A.B. 17 April, 1969, No. 19768/69. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] Plastics sheet is heated and stretched in a mould by means of a piston and vacuum and/or excess pressure to form a prestressed plastics body. The implement for heat shrinking and sealing the P.V.C., polyethlyene or polypropylene plastics body on to a container comprises two relatively movable piston units 30, 31. The central unit 30 is cooled by the circulation of coolant through the tubes 35 and 37, and around the deflector plate 36; while the outer unit is connected to a heat source, internally e.g. a heating coil 41, or externally, where heated air is blown through the chamber 40 and the channels 39, 38 on to the periphery of the cap. The top of the cap, in contact with the cooling plate 34 does not shrink during this process but may be shrunk later to draw the cap more tigntly on to the container. The body may be provided with a preformed tab for removal of the closure.
