Abstract

1,271,210. Lubricator. ITT FLUID HANDLING Ltd. 25 March, 1971, No. 7780/71. Heading F2A. A drip feed lubricator comprises a gas-tight lubricant reservoir I with a feed passage 2 extending from the reservoir to a lubricant supply port 4. A passage 6 is provided between the port 4 and the reservoir in order to equalize the pressures. The lubricant feed passage is closed by a needle valve 5 which is biased against its seat by a spring 23 acting on the flexible top of the reservoir to which the needle valve is fixed. The lubricator is fixed on the apparatus to be lubricated by a fluid-tight connection so that when a pressure greater than ambient pressure exists in the apparatus, the needle valve is lifted from its seat due to the pressure in the reservoir increasing to the same pressure as exists at the lubricant port, and deforming the flexible top of the reservoir. Lubricant thus flows under gravity through the passages 3 and 2 to the supply port and drips into the apparatus. The movement of the needle may be limited by a screw 24 and a sight glass 34 may be mounted in the connection with the apparatus.
